HOD's Remarks
The Department of Communication and Language Arts is a pace-setter: it is the first such department in any university in Nigeria. The Department is somewhat of a hybrid. This is because just as we teach principles and skills in all aspects of communication-interpersonal, organisational, mediated, marketing, instructional, cross-cultural and indigenous communication-we also equip our students with the basic language skills, namely reading, listening, writing and speaking.
Our curriculum is relevant to both national and global demands as it is designed to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. The Department has no doubt contributed its quota to manpower development in the nation. Indeed, as a result of the relevance of communication in all sectors of the economy, the number of Communication and Language Arts graduates employed in various sectors has increased phenomenally over the years. Our programmes and products enjoy wide acceptability in the print and broadcast media, advertising, public relations, oil and gas, banking, telecommunications, publishing and other industries.
The Department of Communication and Language Arts is blessed with quality and experienced faculty who are committed to the social, professional and intellectual growth of their students. We can be reached through cla@mail.ui.edu.ng and +2348035830404.
